Pangea Hires Telefonica’s Head of IoT Wholesale
21 March 2017 - Pangea, a leading global M2M and IoT connectivity and solutions provider, have announced that Bernie McPhillips is set to join their organisation in April, marking the next phase in their Partner Programme strategy. McPhillips has achieved incredible success during his 11-year tenure with Telefonica, delivering great results in several senior level roles within O2 as Head of Wholesale Partners and more recently as Head of Telefonica’s IoT Authorised Distributor Channel.
McPhillips joins Pangea as Sales Director across the group and will have a key influence in supporting the rapid growth seen to date. Pangea will benefit from Bernie’s immense experience as well as his leadership qualities to deliver and accelerate the future growth of Pangea.
Dan Cunliffe, Managing Director of Pangea, explains “We are at a point within the IoT market opportunity, where exponential growth for our partners is upon us. Bernie’s understanding of the IoT market as well as his unprecedented record in working with partners will be a key driver in strategising and creating new valued opportunities for Pangea and our partner channel. Bernie has the critical experience of working closely with partners, so he’s perfectly placed to make certain that our partners are getting the best possible service and the most from their partnership with Pangea.”
Bernie commented “I am genuinely excited by the opportunity to join Pangea and help drive the business on to the next level. I was completely sold on the vision; Pangea’s incredible revenue growth and partner acquisition have exceeded the expectations for a start-up. Really importantly for me, Pangea’s success has been underpinned by a set of core brand values that governs everything that they do. They only operate through Channel, so there is zero conflict with a direct sales team and they put the Partners at the heart of everything that they do. The sales team works ruthlessly to these values to ensure that they go above and beyond to make certain that their partners are getting a world class experience from every interaction with Pangea.”
Cunliffe went on to add, “Pangea have accelerated from being a start-up to a fully-fledged global IoT ecosystem provider with a near six-fold increase in revenue and acquiring over 80 valued partners. In an ever-expanding world of data we believe that everything should be connected, whether it’s devices, appliances, vehicles, and perhaps most importantly, people. With a combined 55 years’ experience in partnering within the telecommunications industry, our award winning ecosystem of connectivity, devices, and solutions make us the channel’s choice for IoT.”

Soracom’s Mission: The Democratisation of IoT
Parag Mittal, Chief Commercial Officer, SORACOM
“Our focus is the democratisation of IoT. For me, the measure of success would be that Soracom is recognised not just for excellent commercial performance, but also for the work it has done to support the industry.”
Interview by Abraham Joseph, Editorial Director, IoT Insights
What is the origin of Soracom?
Soracom was founded in Japan in 2015 by three experts in telecommunications and cloud technologies, our CEO, Ken Tamagawa, our CTO Kenta Yasukawa and our COO Daichi Funato. We launched our service in Japan on 30 September 2015. From the onset, our objective was to develop a communications network that was optimised for IoT, with the performance and scalability to serve all customer groups. One year after launch, we had over 4000 clients. Today we have over 5000 clients. (Read more...)
SORACOM Launches in Europe
22 February 2017 – SORACOM, a leading Japanese IoT connectivity provider today announced the launch of its advanced IoT connectivity platform and services in Europe.
Widely recognized as one of Japan's leading IoT technology providers, SORACOM is breaking down technical barriers to IoT/M2M deployment with a cloud-based connectivity platform that is both technically advanced and affordable. The company uses a unique approach and architecture to provide secure data transfer at low cost, and brings this technology to users globally across all industries in convenient new forms.
“SORACOM aims to use its platform to contribute to the overall growth of the IoT industry,” said Ken Tamagawa, Chief Executive Officer (above). “Current IoT connectivity providers do not offer secure and swift delivery of services that are affordable and available for everyone in a democratized way. Connecting devices to the internet or the cloud is the easy part. Securing devices and data is the most critical. If it’s on the public internet, it’s hackable. Our customers connect their devices directly to the cloud, using a private network provided by SORACOM instead of public internet.”
SORACOM's initial solutions were based on cellular connectivity, but earlier this month the company launched a solution based on LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) that provides gateways to customers as a service.
Devices and services can be managed through APIs and a web console that allows convenient activation/deactivation of SIMs, traffic monitoring, network configuration and visualization, storage and management of data, and many more detailed operations, in real time.
The company has built a global ecosystem of over 250 partners through its Soracom Partner Space (SPS). Through this programme, the company continues to deliver both technical innovation and business value to partners and their customers. The company now welcomes new partners from Europe into SPS to further expand the ecosystem.
SORACOM’s SIM cards are available on Amazon’s European sites for small volumes and via user consoles for larger volumes.
SORACOM’s launch event will be held on 27th February at 12.00 (GMT+1) at Fira Montjuïc, at the 4YFN event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
About SORACOM
SORACOM was founded in November 2014 by a team of cloud and telecommunication veterans and launched in Japan in September 2015. From the beginning, the company's objective was to develop a communications network for IoT innovators across industries with the tools they need to connect, protect, control and coordinate their IoT deployments at speed and at scale. Today, the company serves over 5000 business clients, from start-ups to SMEs and blue-chip corporations. Siren Marine and Morey Partner for Connected Boats
19 December 2016 - IoT hardware solutions provider Morey announced today it has been named the hardware partner for Siren Marine’s next-generation boat monitoring, tracking and security product. Designed by boaters, for boaters, Siren Marine’s suite of monitoring products allow boat owners, fleet operators and boat builders to track a boat’s location, receive alerts when critical events occur, access engine metrics and control onboard devices remotely.
“The Siren Marine team has been working nonstop to introduce a new, IoT-enabled monitoring and tracking solution for boaters,” said Siren Marine Founder and CEO Dan Harper (above), who spent more than 20 years as a professional yacht captain. “As pioneers of the ‘Connected Boat,’ Siren Marine is revolutionizing the boat ownership experience by providing boat owners with remote access to critical and timely information about their boats. Our goal at Siren Marine is to bring boaters peace of mind and more time on the water.”
Siren Marine’s monitoring device connects to sensors around the boat and sends alerts to phones, tablets or computers when critical conditions occur, such as water in the bilge, high/low temperature and unauthorized access to name a few. Onboard devices, including lights or air conditioning can be controlled remotely; and the built-in GPS tracks the position and movement of the vessel. New features include wireless sensors, fleet management, video capture, satellite connectivity, and a National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) interface.
Morey is supporting the project through design engineering, production readiness and manufacturing services to bring prototype product designs to market via its innovation center and manufacturing facility in suburban Chicago. The ruggedized hardware and GPS technologies will work together to reliably analyze and transmit data to a user’s mobile application to provide security, protect the owner’s investment and protect passengers.
“Morey stands on the promise of bringing innovation to industry and this product line is going to revolutionize the boating experience,” said Morey President Dana Morey (left). “We find it incredibly rewarding to partner with Siren Marine, combining their first-in-market technology offering with our 20 years of wireless hardware expertise.”
